The Advisor Gap
Why your competitors are winning quietly — one conversation at a time.
Your competitors have advisors.
Sit with that for a second.
Not mentors. Mentors are lovely — they share stories, buy you lunch, tell you to trust the process.
Not coaches. Coaches ask how you feel. Feelings don’t fix cash flow.
Advisors are the ones who say:
“Your pricing is wrong.”
“This hire will backfire.”
“You’re going to run out of cash in April, and you don’t see it coming yet.”
Annoying? Yes. Necessary? Also yes.
Here’s what I find strange.
Founders will ask their spouse about a business decision. Ask their friend who “once had an idea for an app.” Ask their barber, their cousin, a guy they met at a conference one time. They’ll ask literally anyone except someone who’s watched the exact same problem play out in fifty other businesses.
Why?
Because asking the right person means admitting you don’t have all the answers. And founders hate that. We like figuring it out. Going it alone. Proving we can.
Meanwhile, the founder down the street the one you keep seeing win has someone on speed dial who already made the mistake you’re about to make.
That’s not luck. That’s borrowed wisdom.
The gap between you and your competition might not be talent, or funding, or timing. It might just be one conversation you haven’t had yet.
We’re always here for that conversation.
